About Us
Travis Faile spent ten years in geotechnical drilling — on real job sites, working directly alongside civil engineers, surveyors, and contractors on complex ground investigations and construction projects. That field experience is the foundation of TK Drone Solutions. When you describe your project, Travis already understands the context.
Travis is also an experienced drone pilot with over ten years of professional flight experience. He holds FAA Part 107 certification and is now a certified sUAS Thermographer through the Infraspection Institute — one of a small number of drone operators in the country with this credential. He is also certified and licensed to operate commercially across Northern and Central Virginia (and beyond).
TK Drone Solutions is FAA-certified, licensed, insured, and based in Fauquier County, serving clients across Northern and Central Virginia. In 2025, Travis and Kaitlyn were named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce.
Our Story
Over eighteen years ago at just seventeen years old, Travis and Kaitlyn began a journey together filled with love, ambition, and shared dreams. Over time, their paths led them to rewarding careers—Travis spent a decade immersed in geotechnical drilling, honing his technical skills and fostering a deep passion for innovative solutions, while Kaitlyn dedicated ten years to teaching high school before transitioning into HR tech consulting to empower businesses and their employees.
Despite their accomplishments, they realized their true dream was building something together—something that reflected their unique talents and gave them more time for their family and their community.That dream took flight—literally—with TopKnotch Drone Solutions - a drone solutions provider born from Travis’s passion for cutting-edge technology and problem-solving. Having spent years working below ground, Travis felt compelled to explore the skies, driven by a vision of creating solutions that would change how businesses approached logistical challenges while solving problems unique to the construction industry. Kaitlyn brought her strategic thinking and organizational expertise (and maybe a little OCD) to help transform Travis’s passion into their business. The K in TopKnotch? That's Kaitlyn.
Travis’s passion for drones became the guiding light of their venture. He pours his heart into every project, blending technical expertise with creative problem-solving and the desire to meet every client’s needs. Kaitlyn’s unwavering support and knack for leadership keeps the business on track, ensuring that their clients receive the highest quality service while the family remains their shared highest priority.
Beyond construction, TK Drone Solutions has supported wildlife conservation efforts, search operations, and community initiatives across Fauquier County. When a neighbor's Great Pyrenees went missing, Travis and Kaitlyn launched their thermal imaging drones to help — an effort covered by the Fauquier Times. In a separate search operation, their drone was shot down while assisting in a community search effort. They rebuilt and kept going.
You may have seen Travis, Kaitlyn and their son, Jack, walking around the area in their matching orange shoes. Although their drones soar above the neighborhood, their true success lies in the love they’ve poured into their family, the resilience they’ve shown in overcoming obstacles, and the inspiration they bring to others.
Travis’s passion sparked it all—but it was their teamwork and determination that made their dream take flight!
